Josip Drmic has arguably been the revelation of the Bundesliga season so far. However his future, according to Talksport may lie in England next season.
Drmic has been in spectacular form, scoring 15 goals in 26 games to aid a Nurnberg side struggling in a relegation battle. On return from the winter break he has continued his scoring habit to register a better goals to games ratio than more high profile strikers such as Mandzukic and Lewnadowski.
Such a level of performance has been noticed by Arsene Wenger who has been rumoured to be on the lookout for an additional striker to help lighten the load currently carried by Olivier Giroud.
A twist to the plot comes in the shape of a potential bid from North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
Spurs’ summer signings have misfired this season with particular focus on Roberto Soldado has struggled to get in among the goals this season. Emmanuel Adebayor has also been inconsistent and with Jermain Defoe having left for the MLS, it leaves striking options at White Hart Lane looking limited. However any bid for Drmic depends on Nurnburg agreeing to let their star player leave.
Drmic is currently only in the first of a 4 year contract having signed from FC Zurich for $2 million.
Curent Nurnburg coach Gertjan Verbeek has expressed his desire to keep Drmic at the club saying, “I hope he will stay with us for a long time to come.” Verbeek would also seem to have the backing of his sporting director Martin Bader who is preparing to negotiate at the end of the season to keep Drmic at Nurnberg.
We will get together in the summer; after all we also have a lot to offer.”
It was Bader who signed Drmic to Nurnberg last Summer having been impressed by his 24 goals in 74 games for FC Zurich. Such form also impressed those in the Swiss national setup as Drmic appeared at underage level from u-18 up including their last Olympic squad. He has since become a regular in the Swiss senior side and is likely to feature heavily in the World Cup campaign this summer.
Drmic is a player who has shown immense potential in his young career so far. As such potential suitors may be wise to act fast this summer to try to acquire Drmic’s services for next season as his value is sure to rise.
