With reports today suggesting that Tottenham Hostpur will land Blackpool’s Thomas Ince in the next transfer window, there is a sense of buying for the sake of it in the air around the West London club.
The midfielder (yes, another one!) will reportedly move to White Hart Lane for just £4m due to 21-year-old’s contract expiring next summer. Despite the wealth of midfielders they have available to them, Spurs have been looking to land the former Liverpool midfielder for a while now, and they may seem him as a long-term replacement for Gareth Bale.
Following an 18 goal haul last year, Ince has scored 4 goals in 7 matches so far this season, and the time has come for the player to step up a level before becoming too stagnant at the Lancashire club. The question is, are Spurs the right team for him?
First team appearances will be limited at Spurs and Ince will have to perform at a high standard on instant demand if he is cement at a place in Tottenham’s competitive midfield.
It will be more beneficial for the young player to have an extended run in the Premiership in order for him to find his feet, however, with Nacer Chadli, Aaron Lennon, Andros Townsend and Erik Lamela all fighting for the wide positions, this may be unlikely at the London club.
While Spurs will no doubt like to add yet another talented midfielder to their squad, Ince may want to think twice about what he wants from his next club. Moving to Tottenham will provide him with the big game experiences and the larger pay packet, but moving to a team that can guarantee him first team football at the highest level is certainly the sensible move here.
Ince recently turned down a move to Cardiff City recently and this may be a suggestion at which option he prefers. And for why…
