Teamsheets: Liverpool vs Bordeaux

Since Jurgen Klopp’s take over, Liverpool have become a high-paced and pressing team. The much famed ‘gegenpressing’ has now become apparent in Liverpool’s style of play and is Klopp’s style of play which has revitalised the team.

After 5 games in the Europa League, Liverpool sit top of their group. Although they don’t seem to be running away from the group, Liverpool have nine points from five games and seem sure to progress. Klopp has not only transformed Liverpool’s play, but also their confidence. The lack of confidence is something Klopp mentions at his highly anticipated press conferences. Moreover, the club now seem to have an industrious, likable manager who values hard work as he emphatically said after the City game “We have to work. That’s all”. Klopp has only lost one of his nine games since taking charge and plays a Bordeaux team that has drawn their two away games, but have not won a single game in the Europa League and are without key man Wahbi Kazri.

Liverpool are also having injury problems. Klopp’s high energy style of football is very demanding and the injury list has quickly increased. Sturridge has suffered another injury setback. Phillipe Coutinho has also suffered an injury following the win over City last weekend. Martin Skrtel is ill and is likely to drop down to the bench. With these injuries it is likely that Jordan Ibe and Christian Benteke will come in.

With Kazri out injured, Bordeaux’s case to stay in the competition seems to be relatively slim. Anything other than a win would see them fail to qualify for the next round. Manager Willy Sagnol however, remained positive about Bordeaux’s chances, as he thought they had a chance “if they put as much effort into the game as they did with Mario Kart”. Sagnol may seem upbeat but it seems that Liverpool will claim their place in the next round.

Possible Teams:

Liverpool: Mignolet, Clyne, Toure, Lovren, Moreno,  Milner, Lucas, Can, Firmino, Benteke, Ibe

Bordeaux: Carrasso. Biyogo Poko, Yambéré, Sane, Contento, Rolan, Plasil, Saivet, Chantôme, Ferreira Vieira, Crivelli 6
