Islam Slimani is the latest Striker to be linked with a move to White Hart Lane. Portuguese newspaper Record claim Spurs will attempt to sign the Algerian in the summer window after being rebuffed by Sporting back in January.
With Spurs en course for Champions League qualification, Pochettino appears to already be planning for next season. A short time ago it looked as if Harry Kane would be leaving the Lane come the end of the season however, a chance to play in the Champions League and possibly a Premier League Title should be enough to keep the local boy at home.
Nonetheless, Spurs’ squad lacks experienced centre-forwards. Son, 23, provides the only real cover for Kane and his contribution of just 2 Premier League goals suggest Spurs’ should focus their summer transfer strategy on recruiting a prolific front man.
Slimani fits the bill. 24 goals in 37 appearances for Sporting this season make him one of Europe’s most desirable forwards. Athletico Madrid are also said to be interested in signing the Algerian international and Everton could look to him should Lukaku move on.
Slimani would be available for £23million, a relatively low figure considering he’s converted 50 times in 100 games for the Lisbon giants. His aggressive style and ariel abilty would add another dimension to Spurs attacking options.
At 27, he has already hit 20 goals for the Algerian national team, including 2 at World Cup 2014. Now in the peak of his career, a big move looks imminent. A prolific record in portugual, bullying presence in front of goal and affordable price tag make Slimani a strong candidate in Pochettino’s search for another centre-forward.
