Rafa Benitez has been the exact opposite of Eddie Howe this season, by playing a very defensive and pressure inviting style of play. The Magpies have had fixtures against some of the bigger teams but merely sat off and let the top-class strike forces pressure them for the full 90 minutes.
Joselu is currently top goal scorer with 2 goals and has only completed 3 of the 9 games, the lack of offensive strength is proving a monumental issue which could be due to the sale of Aleksander Mitrovic.
The Serbian striker was off loaded to Fulham and after a brilliant World Cup, it’s a shock that he was still not a part of Rafa’s plans, he could be the piece of the puzzle that Newcastle are missing. Fortunately, the next 10 fixtures for Newcastle are all against teams that finished outside of last year’s top 6.
This season they’ve not been able to pick up a win and this run of games before Christmas could give a solid idea of Newcastle’s fate this year.
The way Newcastle are going though I’d say that Rafa is favourite to be the first manager to lose their job this season.
