After Atletico’s less than impressive Champions League campaign, which has seen them drop out in the group stages of the competition, it is being reported by the Express, that rivals Real Madrid may make a shock move for Atletico’s goalkeeper Jan Oblak.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is keeping a close eye on proceeding’s across the City of Madrid, and in particular on highly rated keeper Jan Oblak.

Current Real Madrid goalie Keylor Navas has fallen out of favour with the Spanish Giants this season, and Oblak, who has been putting in impressive performances the past few years is at the top of the list to replace him.

After Atletico dropped out of the Champions League a lot of the player’s futures at the club, have been cast into doubt.

Manager Diego Simeone’s job is also in doubt, and his departure could see a lot of loyal players leave with him too.

Everton approached Simeone last month about their vacant role; however, he is expected to stay in Spain until the summer at least.

Nevertheless, Oblak has admirers all over Europe. PSG and Manchester United are also said to be interested in the Slovenian international. But Real are now part of the equation.

Oblak is the La Liga’s most expensive goalkeeper in history and has made 88 appearances since joining Atletico, as Thibaut Courtois’s replacement.

Atletico could potentially lose an abundance of players this summer, especially if they choose to part ways with Diego Simeone. This, however, is something Atletico have always been able to overcome in the past.

Sergio Aguero, Fernando Torres, Radamel Falcao, Thibaut Courtois are just a few of the top names Atletico have let go over the years, but have only seemed to recruit world-class players in their departure.

The goalkeeper position is a hard void to fill, however, with world-class goalkeepers few and far between at the moment in Europe.

With the likes of Real Madrid and PSG knocking on the door with what seems unlimited amounts of money, it’ll be hard to turn down a lucrative offer if it comes to Oblak.
