Manchester United will be hosting Middlesbrough at Old Trafford as they face-off in the Capital One Cup. Both teams have lifted the trophy with Manchester United lifiting it only five years ago during the 09-10 season and Middlesbrough winning the Captial One Cup in 2004 under the management of Steve McClaren.
Louis Van Gaal will try to win his first trophy since taking over the Red Devils but has made it clear that the Premier League has full-priority. Manchester United fans should expect to see a lot of the stars sit one out as a lot of the talented youngsters will feature in the match against Middlesbrough.
The Red Devils have been impressive at Old Trafford so far having only dropped points in a 0-0 draw against Newcastle in the Premier League. Manchester United’s defense has also been integral to their success at Old Trafford as they have five clean-sheets in all competitions at Old Trafford.
Middlesbrough have in their own way been quite impressive, despite having recently gone on a bit of a winless streak. They managed to end their winless streak against Wolverhampton with a 3-1 comeback victory.
The Boro manager, Aitor Karanka, has definitely added some great players this season including Boro sweetheart, Stewart Downing, Diego Fabbrini and Christian Stuani.
The newest signing by the Boro, Christian Stuani, has been immense as he has scored three goals in the Championship and got four goals in the Capital One Cup and has been vital to their success!
Could Boro achieve an amazing upset win against Manchester United?
Considering their amazing FA Cup win against Manchester City at the Etihad last season, anything’s possible as Manchester United will be playing their youngsters!
Manchester United will not have the likes of Ashley Young, Antonio Valencia and Luke Shaw available for the match against Middlesbrough.
Middlesbrough on the other hand have a lot of key players who won’t feature as Stewart Downing, Albert Adomah, Christian Stuani and Adam Forshaw are all unlikely to play in the Capital One Cup match.

Fun Fact: Back when Middlesbrough were in the Premier League, Manchester United managed to beat them 3 times (including a Capital One Cup game!).
Prediction: 2-1 Manchester United win. Manchester United SHOULD win despite playing their youngsters. With several injuries to the Boro squad, especially prolific goal-scorer Christian Stuani, anything less than a positive result should be viewed as a disappointment.
