Burnley’s stout defence have made them a force away from home, taking points at Chelsea, Liverpool and Spurs, though they were unable to continue their feat at the Eithad last weekend. They eventually and inevitably succumbed to a 3-0 loss at the hands of Manchester City.
Sean Dyche’s men sit impressively at 8th in the table, as they wait a visit from Newcastle United on Monday night, who sit one place above Burnley.
Turf Moor was Burnely’s safe haven which protected them from the clutches of relegation last season, but so far this season it would seem that Burnley prefer to play away from home. They’ve only won one of their four matches at Turf Moor, making Newcastle’s visit not the easiest of games.
Newcastle did not let their poor start to the season disillusion them about their place in the Premier League. Since losing their opening two games of the season, they haven’t looked back, making an insidious climb up the table.
They have won four, drawn two and lost one in their last seven, and will hope to add to their good run of form come Monday night.
Burnley strikers, Chris Wood and Sam Vokes are injury doubts for Monday night’s game. Wood, who was withdrawn at Manchester City last weekend with a hamstring injury, is described as “touch and go” by manager Sean Dyche. Though, Vokes could still feature.
For the visitors, striker Dwight Gayle will return to the Newcastle squad on Monday, after recovering from a calf injury. Manager Rafael Benitez only truly has one omission from his squad, defender Paul Dummett still out nursing a hamstring injury.
Prediction: Burnley 0 – 1 Newcastle
