Both of these sides had contrasting fortunes in the Carabao Cup. Arsenal needed extra time to get past Championship side Norwich City whilst Swansea fell to a 2-0 defeat at home to Manchester United.

The last round of Premier League fixtures again brought a huge contrast as Swansea lost 2-1 at home to Leicester City whilst Arsenal’s 5-2 hammering of Everton saw manager Ronald Koeman face the sack a matter of days later.

Last seasons meetings

The last meeting between the sides came in January as Arsenal returned to the top four with a 4-0 victory at the Liberty Stadium. Goals from Olivier Giroud and Alexis Sanchez came either side of own goals from Jack Cork and Kyle Naughton in a dismal afternoon for The Swans.

The reverse fixture at the Emirates Stadium was in the October as Arsenal claimed a hard fought 3-2 victory. Two goals from Theo Walcott put Arsenal in a commanding position before Gylfi Sigurðsson halved the deficit before half time. Mesut Özil restored the hosts two goal advantage before Borja Baston scored to make for a nervy finish but Arsenal held on for the three points.

Manager Arsene Wenger made a full team reshuffle for the previously mentioned Carabao Cup win but a host of first-team regulars will return with Santi Cazorla (ankle), Danny Welbeck and David Ospina (both groin) still sidelined. Shkodran Mustafi and Calum Chambers are back in full training and could be involved, but the match will likely come too soon for the pair. Swansea are set to be without three key figures for this already tough trip to London. Martin Olsson suffered a hamstring strain in the midweek Carabao Cup defeat and misses out alongside Renato Sanches (thigh), Wilfried Bony (hamstring) and Kyle Bartley (knee).
