Senior figures at Atletico Madrid believe star man Antoine Griezmann will leave the club as soon summer, but they believe his destination will not be Old Trafford.
As reported by The Independent the senior figures believe the French international will leave for fellow La Liga big hitters Barcelona in a blockbuster deal.
The Frenchman has had well documented links to Manchester United and it looked as though they might have got their man last summer. That was before Griezmann signed a new contract keeping him at the club while Atletico are under their transfer ban.
United have fallen behind Barcelona in the chase for Griezmann as the Catalan giants are intent on going through a rapid rebuild, and are looking to reinvest the Neymar money on quality in their attack. Barcelona have already been linked heavily with Philippe Coutinho, as well as Christian Eriksen and Mesut Ozil.
United though, are not worried about the Griezmann situation and have started looking elsewhere. They are now considering a few options to go for next summer, and while Griezmann might still be on the list – he isn’t a priority.
The Independent have also been told that a few members of the Atletico Madrid squad believe Griezmann will be playing his football at the Nou Camp next season. Any move that goes through will cost Barcelona upwards of £100 million.
Griezmann has managed just seven goals and five assists in 18 appearances this season, but will be looking to improve those numbers if Atletico are going to demand such a high fee.
