For several years Manchester United have failed to secure a left-back in their starting squad. Shaw, Blind, Darmian and Young have all played in the position, yet Mourinho does not seem to feel confident with any one of them. One left-back who has been unsettled for many months, according to The Mirror, is Danny Rose.
The Englishman, who signed for Spurs in 2007, has been linked with a move away for some time now, with Man United being one of the favourites. United have been without an established left-back for many years, with Young being the favourite.
Young, who originally signed as a winger, has been filling the hole this season, however with Rose being a much more defensive minded player, he would fit right in.
He also has the appraisal of United legend; Rio Ferdinand. When asked, on the Claire Balding Show, ‘Who is the best defender in the Premier League today?’ Rio, without any hesitation, said ‘Rose’.
The 27 year old has appeared only once this season, with Pochettino favouring Ben Davies. The Welsh international has kept Rose out of the squad since Rose picked up an injury during the 2016/2017 Premier League campaign. Davies has adapted to the Spurs team this season, so will Rose ever get back into the squad?
This is not the first time that Rose has been linked with a move away from North London. According to The Times (https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/tottenham-hotspur-players-backing-danny-rose-over-pay-row-x8qfhlzx2), Rose was not happy with his salary back in August and wanted a change of club.
With constant drama around whether Rose will depart, it is only a matter of time before he leaves, and with top teams like Manchester United, Chelsea and Man City all being linked with the left-back it would be no surprise if he swapped the white shirt to red.
