According to reports from the Daily Mail, Pep Guardiola is set to do battle with former employers Bayern Munich over the availability of Joshua Kimmich.
It has been suggested that both interested parties are extremely interested in the young German international and are likely to bid in excess of £44 million pounds.
Both approaches are likely to be rebuffed by Bayern chiefs and firmly insist the player is not for sale at any price quoted.
The 22 year old has been a consistent fixture in the 27 time Bundesliga champion’s side following on from his £6 million move from RB Leipzig in 2015. Mainly deployed as right back, he can also fill in to a variety of positions such as a deep lying midfielder or a winger.
His former boss Carlo Ancelotti labelled Kimmich as the “natural heir” to the one-time World Cup winning captain Phillip Lahm who played most of his club career at Bayern.
In December 2016, Kimmich spoke to the German media and told them of his debt to Guardiola for helping his career take off at Bayern.
“When he noticed something, he said it to you directly and not a day or two later when the scene maybe isn’t any longer as fresh in your mind that was definitely special about him – that he always told you straightaway what you can do to improve. In training aswell.”
With Kimmich speaking so highly of his former boss, could we see him following him to the Etihad stadium and continuing his established start to his career?. It would seem very unlikely they would be pairing up anytime soon. It would have to an eye-opening amount to even tempt Munich away from their prized prospect.
