Real Madrid are plotting a January move for Manchester United’s Spanish midfielder Juan Mata.

The Daily Mail suggests that Zinedine Zidane is making a beeline attempt to attract the former Real Madrid youngster back to the Bernabeu stadium following their below par start to the La Liga season.

Real Madrid are said to be targeting Mata to boost creativity amongst their ranks having made a miserable start to their league campaign – sitting 3rd in the table and 8 points behind leaders Barcelona as well as 2nd in their Champions’ League group behind Tottenham Hotspur.

It is understood that Manchester United would want to recoup some of the £37.1 million that they spent on him from Chelsea back in 2014.

The Spaniard is into the final year of his contract and is looking highly unlikely that he will be a United player beyond the summer let alone January.

The attacking midfielder was left out of the entire 18 man squad to face former employers Chelsea on Sunday and this has stirred serious uncertainty as to whether Jose Mourinho has the confidence to reply on his player anymore.

Despite his omission against Chelsea, Mata had previously featured in 12 games this season, starting 11 of them but unfortunately only retuning 1 goal and being substituted in all of his appearances which is why Real Madrid have taken note of his situation at Old Trafford and are ready to make a move.

Having already sold him once during his managerial career, Jose Mourinho would not hesitate to do the same again and always seems to sell players on for decent money.

Juan Mata is seen as a fans favourite at Old Trafford due to his humble approach and consistency on the pitch but even he would find it hard to turn down “Los Blancos” and the lure of a third successive Champions League crown.
