According to The Sun Liverpool and Tottenham are the leading clubs in contention to sign Sheffield United midfielder David Brooks in January for a staggering £20 million.
The 20 year old has only recently signed a new four year deal at the club but this hasn’t stopped the two clubs going all in for him when the transfer window reopens after Christmas.
Jurgen Klopp and Mauricio Pochettino were both really impressed after Brooks’ Man of the Match performance on his full international debut for Wales when they entertained Panama earlier this month and are keen to pursue the move.
The young Welshman has had a great start to life at Bramall Lane after joining from the Manchester City academy in 2014. After helping the Blades to promotion to the Championship last season, Brooks has started the season on good form with 1 goal and 2 assists with his side sitting just 2 points behind leaders Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Sheffield United over the years have produced a long line of starts currently plying their trade in the Premier League with the likes of Kyle Walker, Harry Maguire, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Kyle Naughton and Matthew Lowton all coming through the ranks at Bramall Lane and are no doubt sure Brooks will be the next prodigy to make it to the top of the English Football pyramid.
Tottenham boss Pochettino has a certain knack of developing young British talent and will be excited and eager by the Welshman’s prospects. Jurgen Klopp meanwhile already has another of Wales’s brightest young prospects in the form of Ben Woodburn and will be keen to link up the two attacking players.
Blades manager Chris Wilder set Brook’s valuation at £20 million when he signed a new contract to ward off interest from big potential suitors, however, depending on Sheffield United’s status come May and his international career taking shape, we could see Brooks as a Premier League hotshot come January, let alone next season.
