Manchester United have now been linked with Borussia Mönchengladbach midfielder Patrick Herrmann, but what sort of player is he, and how will he fit in to Louis Van Gaal’s plans?
Herrmann made his debut for Monchengladbach as an 18 year old in January 2010, and has now amassed over 150 appearances at club level, scoring 30 goals.
Naturally right footed, he has been known to play on the left wing, and even off the main striker, and will give Van Gaal plenty of options across the front line.
Now aged 24, Hermann has represented Germany at every age group from Under-16 to Under-21, but he is yet to make his senior debut. He has come close however, following a call up to the squad in March 2013 for a World Cup qualifier against Kazakhstan.
Hermann may not possess the skill of an Angel Di Maria or the raw pace of an Ashley Young, but his all round qualities as well as his overall fitness and work rate makes him a valuable asset for any side.
With question marks hanging over the likes of Di Maria as well as Juan Mata, Hermann would offer a consistent and solid option in the United midfield, with some experience to boot.
Despite Mönchengladbach having one of their best seasons for years (they currently lie in third place) it only seems a matter of time that he will move on to bigger and better things.
With the club not wanting to lose him for nothing when his contract expires in the summer of 2016, it looks more and more likely he could be heading for Old Trafford and the Premier League in a matter of months.
