So Man City are still steady favourites for the title with Chelsea’s fate out of their hands, according to the special one. Pull the other one Jose. But will the Portugese maestro of mind games have managed to pile any extra pressure on Pelligrini’s side, who meet Wigan today in the FA cup quarter finals?

With the domestic treble still very much on for Man City they will have to focus, despite the anticipation of their midweek second leg against Barcelona, for which they need some heroics if they’re to keep their Champions League dream alive.

Manuel Pelligrini will be hoping for a more dominant team performance than the one which won him his first trophy last week in the Capital One against Sunderland. Two beautiful moments of sheer class from Yaya Toure and then Samir Nasri won the game, but City had looked off the pace during the first half and had lacked coherence in midfield and attack.

Of course this is also a chance for City to avenge their painful defeat in the dying seconds of last years final, where the lactics forced a historic 1-0 win. Wigan come off the back of four wins in the Championship, where they lie just outside the play-off places – they’re massive underdogs but do carry a threat of sorts.

City have an almost fully fit squad with only Nastasic and Stevan Jovetic out for the Premier League sides and, with Sergio Aguero back in the mix, all the smart money would suggest that this will be an emphatic win for City, particularly given how much pressure there is for silverware in the blue half of Manchester.

However one or two FA cup romantics will still be holding out for a giant killing on Wigan manager Uwe Rosler’s return to the club where he scored some 64 goals in 176 games for the blues between ’94 and ’98. Surely, though, that is simply a fantasy  and would be a stretch too far even in this cup…right?
