Chelsea are set to launch a full assault on the transfer market come January, as they prepare themselves to breath down the necks of Manchester City, who seem to be waltzing away with Chelsea’s title. Chelsea manager, Antonio Conte will be itching to bolster his threadbare squad, after many weeks of passive-aggressively complaining.
According to the Mirror the club are looking to bring in new faces, including a new striker and Everton midfielder Ross Barkley. Alvaro Morata’s replacement, Michy Batshuayi hasn’t set the world alight when he has come in in place of the Spaniard, thus Conte, will seek a striker for greater assurances at front. Crystal Palace’s Christian Benteke is a player that Conte seems to warm to, perhaps moulding him in the void that Diego Costa will leave.
Chelsea largely spent last summer replacing players who left, so it figures – so far into the season – why they appear to have stagnated. The January window will present the first real opportunity for Conte to finally add to the side that won him the League title last season.
Chelsea’s flitting form in both the Premier League, as well as the Champions League has left the Italian manger having to bat away questions about his future at the club.
Chelsea target, Ross Barkley failed to leave Everton for Chelsea during the summer window, in a summer that had many transfers that dragged on to fail. Barkley got as far as reporting for a medical the London club, though unclear circumstances stifled the transfer from going through.
This time round, Barkley will be more likely to leave during the January window, especially with Koeman splashing on Gylfi Sigurdsson before inevitably getting the sack.
Although, could he end up at London rivals Tottenham Hotspur? Leave your comments below.
