Chelsea are weighing up a £100m offer for Inter Milan’s prolific frontman Mauro Icardi, according to The Sun. According to the report, the Argentine striker is also attracting interest from Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.

Icardi, 24, is enjoying an excellent campaign for the Nerazzurri, having scored an impressive 15 goals in just 14 Serie A appearances this season. Such form is likely to continue to draw attention from all around Europe heading into the upcoming transfer windows, as a number of the continent’s heavyweights seek to add a proven goal-scorer to their ranks. Looking at tells us at a glance that Chelsea are not to be underestimated in any competitions this season. This class of reinforcement will make all the difference.

Interest in the Inter captain from both Madrid and Munich comes as little surprise, as each side have become increasingly short in depth of striking options. Much of the goal-scoring burden falls entirely on Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema for Real, with few other options at the Bernabeu capable of firing them towards major titles this season. Bayern, meanwhile, are similarly over-dependent on the presence and goals of Robert Lewandowski.

For Chelsea, it is a not too dissimilar case. Any potential move from Antonio Conte’s side for Icardi would likely be based on the need to relieve the pressure on Alvaro Morata as the club’s only recognised centre-forward. Trust in Michy Batshuayi as the Spaniard’s understudy appears to be fading.

Any potential capture of Inter’s captain would add a fresh impetus and a world-class alternative to Morata at Stamford Bridge. Icardi would provide the ideal link-up player to the likes of Eden Hazard, Pedro and Willian in the Blues’ attack, and could be required in the club’s efforts to truly compete in both the Premier League and Champions League this season.
