Fresh from winning gold in Rio, Gabriel Barbosa has admitted that he would love to play alongside Brazil Olympic team mate in Barcelona.
19-year-old Gabigol has admitted he wants to challenge for the championships and make a move to Nou Camp. The Brazilian centre-forward was part of the team which won the historic first ever gold medal at the Olympics earlier this month, after Neymars penalty settled the shootout. The Santos striker spoke after the match and stated:
“Up until now, I haven’t really had the time to think about anything because my attention was completely on the Olympics.
“Now I will celebrate with my family, then I will return to Santos and think about what I should do.”
Upon asking whether he would consider playing alongside the 24-year-old, he said:
“He is a great player and playing alongside him would truly be beautiful.”
The youngster has been the subject of many transfer rumors recently, including interest from Juventus and Inter Milan, as well as Leicester city – reigning Premier League Champions. Manchester United have as well been linked to Barbosa. A bid from Juventus was kindly rejected by the Brazilian, as he awaits an offer from Barcelona. Santos’ chief also claimed a bid from Inter Milan was made, and they were waiting on a response from Barbosa.
After previous performances, Barbosa has been tipped ‘the new Neymar’ and has netted 54 goals in 148 appearances for Santos, despite playing as a winger and off the bench. Santos tied Gabigol down with a long-term contract, with a buyout clause of €50million. He has more than repaid the clubs confidence in him since his debut which was made wen he was just 16, back in January 2013.
