Mesut Ozil will demand a substantial signing on fee, if he is to trade north London for Catalonia, say reports in Spain.
The German international, alongside fellow Gunners star Alexis Sanchez, has just six months remaining on his contract and is free to speak to other clubs in January. But, AS reports that Ozil will demand around an £8 million signing on fee.
It is reported that, although Ozil will be available for a free transfer in January, Barcelona would rather buy the midfielder outright, at a cut rate price. With the quoted price being somewhere in the region of £17million, which isn’t a lot for any top side, but especially not when it comes from the pockets of a team like Barcelona.
Although Phillipe Coutinho of Liverpool remains the Catalan clubs number one target, Ozil provides a cheaper alternative, and also one who could play in the knockout stages of the Champions League.
Another alternative whose contract runs out at the end of the season is Schalke’s Leon Goretzka. The German starlet has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League, but Barcelona are also said to be keeping tabs on the youngsters situation.
So far this season Ozil has managed two goals and five assists, as well as creating eight big chances this season as per the Premier League website.
Barcelona will have plenty of rivals to fend off for Ozils signature, Manchester United and Chelsea are both being linked with moves for him, with Mourinho keen to work with Ozil again. Arsenal will also be doing their best to keep Ozil at the club, although it looks like an unsalvageable situation.
