After Spanish giants Real Madrid beat Chelsea to the signing of Tottenham’s Luka Modric last summer, it now seems a move back to London could be on the cards for Modric again, or so say The Sun.
Madrid reportedly payed somewhere in the region of £33million for the Croation but after a lacklustre first season at the club, Jose Mourinho could be looking to offload him already.
Modric only has 2 assists and 1 goal in 15 games in La Liga so far this season – a poor stat if you think that Madrid have scored 45 goals already in this campaign. Modric is obviously not a bad player, we all saw how good he was in his time at Tottenham Hotspur. He was a menace to defenders and was the perfect playmaker for Harry Redknapp’s Spurs side. Nonetheless, the Spanish top division is not an easy one to conquer and Real Madrid fans are not easily pleased.
Honestly, I can’t see Modric returning to the Premier League as soon as January. If players were only given half a season to settle in a new country and a new team, no player would ever succeed.
Many players have not settled in a new team at first and then gone on to be great players for their club. Modric can achieve great things at Madrid but whether Mourinho and the fans will give him the chance to is another question.
Personally, I would love to see a player of Modric’s talents back playing in the Premier League… just not at Chelsea!
