Football training ground spats have been going on since professional football began. Despite being commonplace, reports of such incidents always seem to cause a disproportionate amount of fuss in the press.
In response to the pictures of the striker and the manager having a harmless tussle, Roberto Mancini was quizzed back to front and even asked if he was planning to sell the player!
Mario Balotelli isn’t the full shilling. Or to be kinder, you might describe him as a man who treads a different path to other men. He sets off fireworks in his apartment. He gets his Bentley daubed in camouflage colours and he wears hats that look like they came from the Wallace and Gromit wardrobe department.
Manicini explained to the press that Mario had kicked another player in training and was asked to leave the pitch. Mario didn’t want to and there was a tussle. Nothing more, nothing less.
Perhaps there will come a day when the press who are naturally always hungry for a story stop for a moment and ask themselves, ‘is this actually a story?’
