Wesley Sneijder was suddenly deemed to be a fabulous Christmas present for all Tottenham fans thanks to the power of Twitter and an Italian journalist Tancredi Palmeri claiming:
Here the big market news: Sneijder agreed deal with Tottenham. (sic) and ready to move London asap.Waiting for Inter and Spurs to agree terms.
Sadly ever since the moment this ‘tip’ hit the news wires nothing has emerged to support the suggestion. In fact just the opposite. And today AD.nl are running a sizable article dismissing the story as ‘nonsense’. They are claiming that someone inside the ‘Sneijder camp’ has said to them of the story, “Nothing, absolutely nothing of that.” Which seems a pretty blunt denial.
The article concludes on what might be a rather damning note for Tottenham fans to read:
The midfielder at Inter earns an annual salary of about ten million, an amount which only the absolute top clubs could live up to – and otherwise just some Russian superpowers.
Sneijder would be a great addition to Spurs but a more plausible target has to be Ajax’s Christian Erilksen. Whilst he would cost perhaps as much as £20m, he is younger, would command lower wages and would be likely to have an eventual sell on value.
