Christian Eriksen is only 20 years old and has already played in an unbelievable 136 competitive games for Ajax Amsterdam. In those 136 games, Eriksen has contributed a brilliant 23 goals and 50 assists. After performances like that, It’s hard to believe the young attacking midfielder hasn’t been snapped up by a Premier League club yet.
Now, former Ajax teammate Jan Vertonghen has suggested that Eriksen should join him at his current club Tottenham Hotspur. When asked whether Eriksen was good enough sign for Spurs, Vertonghen said:
“I don’t want to speak for him but he is a good player, and I think a good player can play here.”
Spurs did sign a promising young attacking midfielder in Gylfi Sigurdsson last summer after his whirlwind loan spell at Swansea City. However, the Icelandic player has not performed as well as expected and Christian Eriksen could be the perfect player to step up to the challenge.
Eriksen has been linked with many different clubs around Europe in recent transfer windows and with 30 caps for Denmark under his belt, it’s not hard to see why. The Danish midfielder has also impressed in Ajax’s Champions League campaign this season, creating a goal and scoring a goal in Ajax’s momentous 3-1 win over Manchester City.
An Eriksen to Spurs transfer may have been possible before but with Jan Vertonghen now linking club and player, it seems even more likely. Eriksen would be a fantastic buy for any Premier League club but Spurs may need him more than most to keep their top four league finish dreams alive.
