As rumours speculate about the return of Xabi Alonso, as a Liverpool fan I think I speak for everyone when I say the LFC midfield and indeed the The Kop would welcome him back with open arms.
TheXabi has got to be, in my opinion one of the best midfield players that I have ever seen. His vision and passes are the work of alegend. To walk into a club and out-pass the player that “passes for forty yards” takes some doing. I think most fans would agree in saying that Xabi along with Stevie G are two of the most influential players we’ve ever had.
So now that the player is rumoured to be running down his contract, Rodger’s would be mad not to inquire about the player ?
As the Brendan Rodgers has shown so far – he likes to run the club his way – a poignant example being when the manager neglected to sign Michael Owen or retain the services of Andy Carroll – after failing to secure a striker in summer. I think many fans would have accepted the striker on a short-term contract, but the manager instead preferred to stick with his youth options.
It’s clear that Rodgers wants to bring the next big thing through, with reports also suggesting that Liverpool may go for the “Next Xabi Alonso”. But while we continue to blood the youngsters through, the present side only suffers. It’s about getting a balance between young and old.
I’d tell Rodgers to sign Xabi up without hesitation and pretty I’m sure most Liverpool fans will feel the same way.
