Sunderland host Chelsea in what will be an edgy affair. Rafa Benitez must have known his appointment wouldn’t have been hailed by Blues fans as the best news they had ever heard, yet his inability win a single league game has so far has only increased the contempt from supporters at the matches.
Martin O’Neil has his own woes namely getting sucked into a relegation scrap and this could happen to him this week or the week after. It looks increasingly likely. There are no easy games in the Premier League but wounded beasts can be the ones that fight back toughest. If Rafa botches this one things will get very nasty, very quick.
Benitez of the absence of John Terry and Frank Lampard:
“They are experienced players, they’ve won the Champions League and a lot of trophies but they have to show that character and they need confidence to do that. Some players might show character but if one or two are not at that level, the whole team suffers. That is what happened in the second half at West Ham.”
