Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers will be coming under much scrutiny in the weeks to come, as fans wait in anticipation to see if the manager can match his target of bringing in up to three players in this coming window.
If you have watched or listened any of his press conferences then you can tell that he is a very comfortable public speaker, who loves to talk. However it will be his actions rather than words that will come under scrutiny.
So far his decision making skills have been okay, a good buy in Joe Allen and tidy player in Oussama Assadi makes that two out of three for the Reds boss, with Fabio Borini struggling to match his transfer fee so far. The real chink in the armour was in the one who got away, as Liverpool lost out on Dempsey, leaving them embarrassingly short on strikers. I know some will blame will be aimed at the board, however Rodgers should shoulder some of the blame.
However with Liverpool back in the same boat as they were at the start of the season, lets hope that Brendan has re-watched Groundhog Day and can hopefully set the Reds straight sailing.
Ironically enough Liverpool might benefit having not spent money on a striker in the summer, as there seems to be a lot of quality players available or entering into the final year of their contract round this time of year.
One of the most profile players that fall into this category would be Walcott. Having stalled on his contract the player would represent a real coupe at the price of 8 million. I have always had my doubts about Walcott, however after a few impressive displays this season I have been hugely impressed by the player and think that he would represent a good buy for anyone. As Liverpool are the most notably team short on strike power I would assume, unless the player resigns that the player would entertain the move sooner rather than later, especially since the player is a Liverpool fan. If he worked on his consistency, I could well see the follow in the same shoes as Michael Owen.
Having been linked with this player before, I’m sure Liverpool know all about Mohamed Diame. The player was rumoured to be on his way to Liverpool in the summer, of course, until former Reds boss Kenny Dalglish kicked the managerial bucket. After Rodgers’ took over that transfer didn’t seem to materialize and since then midfield has proven his worth, with a very dominant display against Chelsea.
Tipped to be the next Patrick Viera, you can see why people would liken him to player such as this, as he does posses all the attributes to become the next big dominant defensive midfielder. The only thing that may stop a hinder a deal is the players heart condition, but if you can see past that then this would be a very good signing indeed.
The next player that’s another one that got away is …former Liverpool player Tom Ince. Since going Blackpool from Liverpool for £250,000, Tom Ince has been in top form scoring 19 goals in total. A number of teams seemed to be interested in the player, however seeing as though Liverpool are set to receive a high percentage in the profits of any sale, I’m sure Liverpool and Blackpool could come to some arrangement.
Apart from the players mentioned, I also think that Jack Butland could be on his way to Liverpool. However that all depends on whether Pepe Renia joins Arsenal or not, with that deal is barely even speculation at the moment.
