Tottenham Plotting A Man United “Swoop”?

Just before Manchester United were humiliated by Everton yesterday, BBC Sport reported that Danny Welbeck is considering leaving the team that he rose through the youth ranks to break into. The 23 year old is supposedly frustrated at the lack of opportunities he is getting in his preferred position.

He is notably behind Rooney and Van Persie in the pecking order and now with the arrival of Mata, a player who is only really effective in the hole, he could see his chances limited further. The Daily Mail have added further fuel to the fire by suggesting manager David Moyes is pleading with him to stay and that Tottenham are monitoring the situation.

When asked about the stories following the Everton defeat, Moyes stressed that Welbeck is very important to him and to Manchester United.

The academy graduate, who is a local Manchester lad, is a big favourite to most Red Devil fans. There are those that think he isn’t good enough to play and that he isn’t a natural finisher, but the fans that go to the games are mostly happy to see him on the team sheet.

The first thing you look for when you go to a game is commitment, passion and desire.

Welbeck certainly gives all of that, he shows fantastic stamina in games and his athleticism is a big attribute that gets him him the nod in the big ones.

There is nothing better than seeing a local lad come come into the first team, Man Utd have an exceptional record at bringing through young talent and David Moyes has a job on his hands to keep this tradition going. He definitely will not want to lose the player in the summer.

In terms of those questioning his finishing, the striker has shown that he can find the net when leading the frontline and not being stuck out on the wings.

With the injury of Van Persie, Welbeck was recently given a run of games upfront and didn’t disappoint. Criticised last season for a poor goal return, the young Englishman has improved this campaign with 10 goals in 32 appearances for United.

Elsewhere Welbeck may feel that he could progress his career even further. He has frequently spoke of his desire to improve his goal scoring and having done so this season, he may feel he will benefit much more going to a team where he is the main man.

Daniel Sturridge, known to be a good friend of Danny’s, could perhaps have shown him the advantages of seeking a move elsewhere and having a more consistent role.

With two years left on his contract, BBC Sport have claimed that he is having second thoughts about signing a new one. If true than Moyes has another problem on his hands in a season full to the brim with worries.

Hernandez looks very likely to move and countless reports have claimed Van Persie too is seeking elsewhere. Either way, whatever happens Man United fans can expect to have the busiest transfer window they have ever seen. Constantly linked to players coming in, they are becoming linked to just as many that are going out.
