CONFIRMED Teams: Tottenham vs Everton

Everton travel to White Hart Lane looking to keep their Champions League ambitions alive, as they take on fellow top four rivals Tottenham.

Roberto Martinez’s team leapfrogged Spurs into fifth place in the league last weekend after a 2-1 home victory over Aston Villa, while Spurs were held to a 1-1 draw by Hull.

The Toffees fought back from a goal down to take the win against Villa, showing that they can respond well to poor performances, after their 4-0 thrashing by Liverpool in the Merseyside derby two weeks ago.

Everton have had an impressive season under Martinez, losing only three matches – no team has lost fewer – and conceding less goals than everyone besides the top two, Arsenal and Chelsea.

Despite this, they have had their worst run of the season over recent games, winning only three of their last seven, losing two. They have also only managed to keep one clean sheet in their last 10 league matches.

Spurs however were on fire until their thrashing by Manchester City two weeks ago, taking 16 out of a possible 18 points. They have scored in all eight Premier League matches under Tim Sherwood.

However, the Lilywhites’ home form has let them down, with only 11 points from their last 10 games at the Lane, and they have gained the least points in games between the top seven teams, with just two. Although Everton have won just one of their last five away games.

The form would suggest that Spurs should have the slight edge, especially with the return of Andros Townsend from a hamstring injury.

But the Toffees have historically had the better of games between the two, having lost only twice in their last 13 meetings.

After a 0-0 draw in the reverse fixture and six draws in their last 12 encounters, it seems likely that this game could end up being a tightly fought draw.
