Manchester United are still in search of a defensive midfielder.
Serbian midfielder Matic scored his first champions league goal for Benfica this week, a crucial one in the 2-2 draw against Anderlecht.
Manchester United have apparently increased their interest in recent weeks, according to The Mirror. Speculation reports this week suggest that Benfica have put a £20 million price tag on the 25 year old. This doesn’t put him out of reach for The Red Devils, but will certainly make David Moyes think twice.
Matic could be the missing link the united midfield, sitting in the depths of midfield, he is known for his powerful playing style and ability to drive through the heart of midfield’s at pace and power – he isn’t one for sitting still.
He is a ball winner and an engine when on the pitch, something that would definitely fit right into the Man Utd line up.
During his time at Benfica, he has made more and more of a name for himself, however, £20mil seems a very steep price.
Since Gareth Bales £85million move to Real Madrid in the summer, it has seemed to set a trend for outrageous transfer fees. Teams across Europe are putting big prices on their places, which makes you think that we have to accept the transfer market has changed, £20million could possibly be deemed as a bargain.
If you compare this transfer to that of Marouane Fellaini’s move in the summer, it seems more and more plausible for Moyes to pay that amount of money to Benfica.
This move looks likely and promising on United behalf, lets see what the future holds for the Serbian International.
