Arsene Wenger is chasing AC Milan youngster Stephan El Shaarawy, as yet another player is linked with a move to North London.
According to this week’s gossip columns, Wenger will make attempt to take the Italian attacker on loan next season.
El Shaarawy is a talented player who is highly regarded at Milan. He can play in a wide-role but his preferred position is just behind a central striker, where he can thread clever through ball into the box.
His speed and dribbling ability are a big asset, but the 19-year-old also possesses fantastic vision.
I don’t know how likely a move to the Emirates Stadium is. Milan will want him to gain first-team experience, but can Arsenal really offer that. If Wenger was to sign another winger, he would surely go for someone more experienced, who has proved himself, rather than an unproven youngster.
If they were to bring through a younger player, it would make more sense if it was one of their own.
The only way I could see a loan move, is if Arsenal finalise the option to buy beforehand. That way, if El Shaarawy impresses in the Premier League, they can sign him for an already-agreed price.
I imagine that this is an unfounded rumour.
Although it is an interesting possibility, it would make more sense for Arsenal to buy, and that is unlikely – Milan will be reluctant to sell given El Shaarawy’s potential.
