As the competitive season draws to an end, the vultures are starting to circle around Torino defender Angelo Ogbonna. Club chairman Urbano Cairo has previously denied he would be letting the 24 year old Italy international leave, but it appears he may be powerless, despite the defenders contract running til 2016.
talkSPORT claim that Ogbonna will be leaving in the summer. Liverpool have had a confirmed interest for a while, as they scout Europes top leagues for a suitable replacement for club legend Jamie Carragher.
Brendan Rodgers sent scouts out to observe Ogbonna in Torino’s recent 2-2 draw with Bologna, but the Anfield club face stiff competition in the form of Manchester United and Bayern Munich. AC Milan may also be preparing a swap deal for Ogbonna involving Bartosz Salomon.
Ogbonna, who made the squad but didn’t appear for Italy’s during their Euro 2012 campaign, is considered one of Italy’s hottest prospects. He has made 128 appearances for Torino since 2006.
Whoever signs the talented defender may want to hire a driver to help their latest acquisition get around. Ogbonna infamously lost control of his Smart Car on a bridge in Turin back in 2008. He was left unhurt, but any club making a £10 million investment in the young defender would no doubt want to take extra special care of him.
