Chelsea have joined the list of admirers that David De Gea is collecting, as we inch closer to the goalkeeper summer merry-go-round according to the Express.
The Spanish keeper has failed to excite the whole of Old Trafford in his 18 months at the club since making the move from Atletico Madrid, and has continually been linked with a move away from Manchester.
Barcelona were interested in bringing the 22 year old back to Spain, with Victor Valdes wanting out of the Nou Camp, but Chelsea have come to the forefront with their on loan goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois impressing at Atletico Madrid and may look to make the move permanent.
De Gea showed his class in the Champions League last 16 against Real Madrid and has only conceded eight goals in his last 11 appearances for the club, and if the Spaniard continues in that vein Sir Alex Ferguson may be unwilling to part company him. United were linked with Stoke City stopper Asmir Begovic in January, and it has been rumoured that the Bosnian international could move to Manchester in the summer for around £15 million according to many outlets including Goal.com.
Ferguson is still unsure who his first choice goalkeeper is, but De Gea looks to be in front at the moment with a run of games, and last week it was reported that he was selling Anders Lindegaard to make space for Begovic.
United may be reluctant to sell De Gea to Chelsea as they should be title contenders next season. The Stamford Bridge side are keen on bringing a goalkeeper to the club with the possibility of Courtois staying in Madrid and after attempting to sign Jack Butland but losing out to Stoke.
De Gea will be fighting to impress Sir Alex to force a stay at Old Trafford, but if he doesn’t do enough he will have plenty of suitors, which may force a domino effect of goalkeeping moves around the top European clubs.
