Tottenham outcast David Bentley is a rumoured target for Championship side Blackburn Rovers, according to Tuttomercatoweb. The former Arsenal player joined Tottenham in 2008 in a staggering £15 million deal.
However the move has not worked out for Bentley and he has only made 42 appearances for the first team and has been farmed out on loan three times.
Bentley is currently on loan with Russian Premier League side FC Rostov in a desperate attempt to get his career back on track. He was a player who was once touted as the next David Beckham, he had a brilliant right foot and good set piece delivery. However, he was unable to dislodge Aaron Lennon from the right wing at Tottenham, and concerns were raised over his attitude.
After unsuccessful loan stints at Birmingham City and West Ham, Bentley will see any potential move back to Blackburn as an opportunity to try and rebuild his career in English football. It is highly unlikely that Spurs will make anything like the £15 million they paid for him and so Blackburn might be able to get the one time England winger for a nominal fee.
His greatest moment in a Spurs shirt came in the epic 4-4 draw against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium. Bentley controlled the ball and scored a vicious long range volley which beat Manuel Almunia and sent the Spurs fans into raptures.
However these moments of brilliance were only fleeting and Tottenham fans never got to see the player who once scored a Premier League hat-trick against Manchester United for Blackburn and was on the fringes of the England set-up.
His departure will not come as any surprise to Tottenham fans.
