Arsenal host Bayern Munich tonight, with the Gunners desperate to give themselves a decent lead to take to the Allianz Arena next month. Should Arsenal face any chance of progressing through the tie you feel that they must come away with a victory here.
Arsene Wenger faces a selection headache at left back with Kieran Gibbs ruled out through injury, Nacho Monreal cup-tied and André Santos having left to join Gremio on loan until the end of the season.
Thomas Vermaelen could be forced to deputise on the left side of defence, however the Gunners could be bolstered by the return of Laurent Koscielny.
Defensively the Gunners have been poor this season and their best shot at taking something from the game will be to go on the attack against the Germans.
However they must be wary not to get caught on the counter particularly by the dangerous duo of Robben and Ribery.
Bayern will be looking to put the upset of last year’s crushing Champions League final defeat behind them by taking the impotence against an Arsenal side who have struggled to put any sort of consistency together domestically this season.
Having reached two out of the last three finals, the pedigree that Bayern possess is all too clear to see. Currently enjoying a comfortable lead at the top of the Bundesliga, Jupp Heynckes will be looking to improve on last year in lifting the Champions League trophy in his final season in management.
The Germans will be keen to leave the Emirates with that all important away goal. And if they end the leg within one goal of the Gunners, you would fancy them to take the tie overall.
