Of all the transfer mayhem of the last month, Norwich have come out of it without number one target Gary Hooper but should still be quietly satisfied with how they’ve done in the market. Having spent nothing and gained nothing from January, only Chelsea have done better in regards to net profit and brought someone into benefit the squad.
The swap deal to bring Leeds’ 20 goals for the season man Luciano Becchio in to the club with 2 goals for the season Steve Morison going in the opposite direction can only be good for Deliah Smith, Stephen Fry & Co.
Along with Becchio, the Sierra Leone striker Kei Kamara has joined from the MLS on loan to add depth to an area seriously stretched by the injury to Grant Holt. Kamara has experience in grabbing goals in the MLS and even though the Premiership is a big step up Chris Hughton is a man with an eye for a talent.
Hughton brought in Alexander Tettey to Norwich which has been a shrew buy and not only that but Hughton is the man who was in charge at Newcastle when the signed Demba Ba and Cheikh Tiote, you might recall that their combined total was £3.5 million.
Norwich went from an incredible ten game unbeaten run in the league to a seven game run without a win in the league, with only six goals scored in those seven games. Grant Holt hasn’t been as prolific as last season and Hughton has recognised that in his moves this January.
I was pleasantly surprised to see the Canaries do so well after a poor start to the season and now that I know what they are capable of I want them to stay up in order to enjoy seeing Hughton in management and see Norwich City compete.
The Leeds contingent has now grown again and Snodgrass, Johnson and Howson have given Becchio a high level to aim for, speaking as a neutral, I hope he smashes it.
