As the January transfer window slams shut, some clubs are already planning their summer activity. Reports in Italy suggest Arsenal are attempting to lure Luka Modric back to the Premier League. Certainly he would be a coveted option.
The creative Croatian midfielder has failed to settle at Real Madrid since his £33 million move last summer. Modric has struggled to show the form that set the Premier League alight, and readers of Marca even voted him the worst La Liga signing of 2012.
If a summer move is possible, it will spark a scramble amongst Premier League sides for the 27 year old. Real will have to take a huge loss on the playmaker, while he will be seen as a bargain due to his previous displays in England.
Of course, a move to Arsenal would dismay Tottenham fans, but would delight Gunners’ supporters. Modric would give them another playmaking option from midfield, and alleviate pressure from Jack Wilshere and Santi Cazorla in particular.
